GIC complies with all Georgia State Board of Cosmetology requirements. Therefore, enrolled students must be at least 17 years of age with written consent of a legal parent or guardian and able to provide proof of having completed high school diploma or GED. GIC no longer accepts ATB test.

Do you need a license to be an esthetician in Georgia? Yes, the state of Georgia requires completion of an approved, licensed esthetician program consisting of a minimum of 1,000 hours and is approved by the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers.

Here are a few items we would like to clarify. Makeup artists are allowed to practice as long as such artist does not perform: waxing, tinting, or trimming of brows. This should be performed by a licensed esthetician or cosmetologist. Makeup artists are also not permitted to apply Eyelash Extensions.

Hairstylist apprenticeship requirements

Georgia requires 2,650 hours and 14 months of training before you become eligible to take your board examination for licensure. The program length is 24 to 36 months. The average Hair Design Apprentice completes their training in 2.5 years.

The Georgia DDS permit test consists of 40 questions, and you must answer at least 30 questions correctly to get a passing score (75%). The questions in our sample tests are nearly identical to those on the official GA exam.

The Esthetician exam contains 110 questions and has a time limit of 1.5 hours.

Test Results

A score of 70% or better is required to pass the exam. You may retake each exam as many times as needed until you successfully pass the examination, however you may be responsible for paying additional examination fees with each attempt.
